There’s a break in a nearly 40-year old cold case in Iowa involving a Dubuque man. In 1988, an Iowa DOT worker found skeletal remains in Woodbury County in far western Iowa.

This year, forensic genetic geneology identified the man as Clarence Ames, originally from Dubuque, who died sometime between 1971 and 1975. The cause of death is not known, but foul play isn’t suspected. Investigators still don’t know how or why Ames ended up in Woodbury County.
