Senior Farmers Market Initiative Launches on June 1 in Grant County

LANCASTER, WI – As of June 1, 2025, the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Southwest Wisconsin, located at 8820 Hwy 35/61 South, Lancaster, WI, will begin distributing checks through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). This initiative provides low-income seniors access to fresh, locally sourced fruits, vegetables, and herbs, funded by the USDA. The program aims to promote healthy eating habits while simultaneously supporting local farmers by incentivizing purchases at farmers markets and roadside stands from June 1 until October 31.

To qualify for the program, seniors must be 60 years of age or older (or 55 for Native Americans) and meet specific income criteria. Eligible individuals will receive five $5 checks, totaling $25, along with useful tips for utilizing fresh produce and a list of participating markets. It is required that recipients reside within Grant County. Additionally, a designated proxy may apply for or shop on behalf of up to four seniors, provided that an Eligibility Agreement form is completed prior to application.

Check distribution will take place at the ADRC office (8820 Hwy 35/61 South, Lancaster, WI) from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., as well as at several meal sites on the following dates: Platteville (June 4, 11:00–12:00), Boscobel (June 5, 12:00–1:30), Muscoda (June 11, 11:30–Noon), Fennimore (June 12, 11:30–12:30), Cuba City (June 13, 11:00–Noon), Cassville (June 18, 11:00–12:00), Montfort (June 19, 11:30–12:00), and Lancaster (June 24, 11:30–12:00).
