On May 21, 2025, at approximately 5:23 PM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding a roll-over UTV accident that occurred on private property just off Oak Road, north of Dickeyville in the Town of Paris.
Upon the arrival of officers, it was determined that Mario Cardenas, 27, from St. Landry, Louisiana, was operating a 2019 Polaris UTV down a muddy hillside when he lost control. The vehicle subsequently rolled onto its side, trapping Cardenas underneath. He was the only individual on the UTV and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
Approximately two hours after departing on the UTV, Cardenas was found unresponsive and exhibited no signs of life.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to investigate this incident. Assistance was also provided at the scene by the Dickeyville Fire Department and Dickeyville EMS.
This case remains under investigation.
