Sundown Road Culvert Project Finished, Road Completely Open

DUBUQUE, IA – The Dubuque County Highway Department has announced the successful completion of culvert improvements along Sundown Road, officially reopening the roadway to traffic at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. This construction initiative commenced on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM, and involved essential upgrades along a 6.07-mile segment of Sundown Road, stretching from E Pleasant Grove Road to U.S. Highway 151, in addition to a section of Higginsport Road from Stoffel Road to Fischer Road.

Throughout the construction, Sundown Road remained accessible, which helped reduce any inconvenience for both residents and commuters. The work primarily targeted the repair and enhancement of culverts, aimed at improving drainage and ensuring the longevity of the road surface. County officials reported that the project was finished on time, with no noted delays or considerable traffic disruptions.

The Dubuque County Highway Department expressed gratitude to the community for their patience during the construction phase and highlighted the critical need to maintain infrastructure for safe and dependable travel conditions. Motorists are now advised that all construction equipment and barriers have been removed, allowing normal traffic to resume along the impacted routes.
