On July 19, 2025, at around 7:52 PM, a tragic incident took place in Grant County, claiming the life of a 75-year-old resident from Platteville. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received an alert from a crash detection feature on an iPhone, indicating a collision in the vicinity of Baker Ford Road and Whig Road, prompting immediate response from local deputies.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a single vehicle, identified as a 2006 Jeep Commander, that had veered off the roadway and ended up crossing a creek. The driver, named Linda Bottomley, was found not wearing a seatbelt at the time and sustained significant upper body injuries.
Linda Bottomley was subsequently transported by Southwest Health EMS to Southwest Health Center, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. According to the Grant County Coroner’s findings, a potential medical incident likely triggered the crash, leading Bottomley’s vehicle to cross the center line before leaving the road.
Assisting the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were several agencies, including Southwest Health EMS, the Platteville Fire Department, and SOS Towing. This incident represents the fifth motor vehicle fatality in Grant County for the year 2025.
The investigation into the crash is still in progress, and authorities are urging all drivers to prioritize road safety. They stress the importance of wearing seatbelts and being aware of any medical issues that may affect one’s ability to drive safely.
