Deadly Head-On Crash on Hurstville Road Takes One Life, Leaves Another Injured

**MAQUOKETA, Iowa – July 6, 2025** – A devastating head-on collision on Hurstville Road, located just north of Maquoketa, resulted in one fatality and one serious injury on July 4, 2025, as reported by the Iowa State Patrol. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. and involved a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser and a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder.

The Iowa State Patrol noted that the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was traveling northbound, crossed over the center line for reasons yet to be determined and collided head-on with the Nissan Pathfinder heading south. The impact was catastrophic, causing one death and one serious injury.

The deceased, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Authorities stated that this lack of seatbelt usage contributed significantly to the fatal outcome. The individual was taken to Jackson County Regional Health Center by the Jackson County Ambulance, where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained serious injuries but was wearing a seatbelt, which authorities believe saved their life. This driver was subsequently airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical treatment.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were removed from the scene by B&G Towing. The incident prompted a swift response from various agencies, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Maquoketa Fire Department, Jackson County Ambulance, and the Jackson County Medical Examiner. Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Helton, badge #118 from Post 12, is leading the investigation.

At this time, authorities have not provided additional information regarding the cause of the crash, including whether factors such as road conditions, driver impairment, or mechanical failure may have contributed to the incident.
