Woman Sentenced to Fourteen Years in Federal Prison for Distributing Fentanyl That Led to Death

A woman convicted of selling fentanyl in Dubuque, Iowa, has been sentenced to fourteen years in federal prison. Jessica Lee Erickson, 44, from Daytona Beach, Florida, received this sentence following her guilty plea on January 2, 2025, for one count of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death.

Beginning in approximately May 2024, Erickson began supplying a mixture that contained fentanyl to the victim. On June 15, 2024, she distributed this mixture at a residence in Dubuque, Iowa. Tragically, on the same day, the victim consumed the fentanyl provided by Erickson and subsequently died.

The sentencing occurred in Cedar Rapids, presided over by Chief Judge C.J. Williams of the United States District Court. Erickson received a sentence of 168 months in prison and is also required to complete a five-year supervised release following her incarceration. It is important to note that there is no possibility of parole in the federal system. Erickson is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals until her transfer to a federal prison can be arranged.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin and investigated by the Dubuque Drug Task Force.
