City to Initiate Vegetation Control Spraying on Floodwall Beginning July 28

**Dubuque, July 23, 2025** – The Public Works Department of the City of Dubuque is set to initiate weed control spraying on the land side and rip-rap areas adjacent to the U.S. Senator John C. Culver Floodwall, weather permitting, on Monday, July 28.

This operation is in compliance with the United States Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Technical Letter (110-2-583), which requires the elimination of undesirable vegetation within the designated “Vegetation-Free Zone.” The herbicide will be applied to all vegetation, with the exception of the grass along the flood control system. To inform the public, signage will be positioned strategically along the flood control system to mark the treated areas.

Completion of this work is anticipated by August 8, contingent upon weather conditions. The Public Works Department strongly recommends that individuals, particularly children and pets, avoid contact with the sprayed weeds for a period of 24 hours following the treatment.
