**Accident Claims Life of 75-Year-Old in Grant County**
A devastating accident occurred on July 19, 2025, around 7:52 PM in Grant County, resulting in the tragic death of a 75-year-old woman from Platteville, identified as Linda Bottomley. The incident was reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center via a crash detection notification from an iPhone in the vicinity of Baker Ford Road and Whig Road, prompting immediate response from local deputies.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a 2006 Jeep Commander that had veered off the road and come to a halt after crossing a creek. Linda Bottomley, the driver of the vehicle, was not buckled in at the time of the accident and sustained serious upper body injuries.
Emergency responders from Southwest Health EMS transported Bottomley to Southwest Health Center; however, she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The Grant County Coroner indicated that a potential medical episode may have been a contributing factor in the accident, causing Bottomley’s vehicle to cross the center line and exit the roadway.
Multiple agencies assisted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at the scene, including Southwest Health EMS, the Platteville Fire Department, and SOS Towing. This incident marks the fifth motor vehicle fatality in Grant County for the year 2025.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is still in progress. Authorities are urging all drivers to prioritize road safety by using seatbelts and remaining aware of any medical issues that could affect their driving capabilities.
