Subject Holding Hostage Taken into Custody Following 2-Hour Standoff in Grant County

A tense standoff involving law enforcement and a barricaded individual took a peaceful turn on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Platteville Township.

At approximately 10:01 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a male suspect who, armed with a hammer, was breaking windows and entering a residence located at 5215 Classic Ln, Lot 13, in Oak Park Trailer Park.

Officers from the Platteville Police Department and UW-Platteville Police Department responded promptly and found the suspect along with two others in a black truck parked a short distance away.

Following a series of developments, law enforcement discovered a male, later identified as Jonathan Blaser, 34, of Shullsburg, armed with a large knife inside a trailer at Lot 4. He had barricaded himself inside with a female hostage.

Negotiations with Blaser lasted approximately two hours before officers used OC spray and a Taser to successfully subdue him. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Grant County Jail.

Blaser faces serious charges, including Burglary, False Imprisonment, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, and Resisting Arrest.

Additionally, another male, Dustin P. Yanochik, 33, of Dodgeville, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant during the incident.

The response involved assistance from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Platteville Police Department, UW-Platteville Police, Southwest Health Center, and K9 Riggs.

In accordance with Wisconsin Statute §950.04, the identities of any victims involved remain undisclosed.
