DUBUQUE, Iowa – Sylvester Pierre Hubbard is scheduled for an arraignment on July 7, 2025, at 9:00 AM in Dubuque County District Court regarding case number 01311 FECR160033. This legal proceeding follows a June 9, 2025, event in which Hubbard is alleged to have engaged in a riot, aimed a firearm at an individual during a confrontation at Comiskey Park, and committed associated offenses.
On June 10, 2025, the Dubuque Police Department filed charges against Hubbard, which include two Class D felonies: participation in a riot and willful injury resulting in bodily harm. Additionally, Hubbard faces two aggravated misdemeanors—assault while exhibiting a dangerous weapon and unlawful assembly. Each felony carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $7,500 fine; each misdemeanor may result in up to 2 years in prison and a $6,250 fine.
According to court records, Hubbard’s initial appearance took place on June 11, where Judge Robert J. Richter mandated a no-contact order and established a $5,000 surety bond, which Hubbard has since posted for pre-trial release. On June 18, Judge Michael J. Shubatt received trial information and testimony records that validate the accusations involving the firearm. A preliminary hearing was also conducted on that day. Legal representation changed when Attorney Les Blair withdrew on June 19, and Benjamin Robert Bartels took his place.
As of now, no outcome has been recorded. The upcoming arraignment will clarify Hubbard’s plea regarding the charges.
