Dubuque Revises Fireworks Regulations to Conform with State Law

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dubuque City Council has passed an updated ordinance concerning the use of consumer fireworks, in accordance with new state legislation. Local governments are now prohibited from banning the use of fireworks during the daytime on July 3, July 4, and December 31.

In accordance with the updated regulations, fireworks are allowed during the following hours:

• Between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on July 3,

• Between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4,

• Between 9 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on December 31.

Firework usage is prohibited on all other days and is only allowed on private property with explicit consent from the owner. Public areas such as streets, parks, and trails remain strictly off-limits for fireworks.

Residents are reminded to exercise caution due to fire risks during dry conditions and to be considerate of their neighbors, particularly children, pets, and individuals with PTSD. Any violations of this ordinance will be treated as simple misdemeanors, incurring a minimum fine of $250. Residents are encouraged to report issues by calling 563.589.4415.
