City Parks and Recreation Commission Welcoming Name Suggestions for New Park in South Pointe Community

June 16, 2025 – The Parks and Recreation Commission of Dubuque is currently accepting proposals for the naming of a new park in the South Pointe neighborhood, which is being developed by South Pointe, L.L.C. This park, anticipated to be finished by this fall, will include facilities such as playground equipment, swings, a picnic table, a bench, and a bike rack.

Submissions must adhere to the City’s Park & Recreation Facility Naming Policy, which encompasses themes such as historic events, significant individuals or groups, substantial donations, or geographical features. Proposals should include a suggested name accompanied by reasoning, and may also include supporting documents such as letters or petitions.

The Parks Director, Marie Ware, will assess the submissions for adherence to policy, verify the accompanying documents, and present them to the commission for evaluation and subsequent recommendation to the City Council.
