Angling Dispute Results in Arrest of Dubuque Resident Following Handgun Display at O’Leary’s Lake

**Grant County, WI** – A fishing altercation at O’Leary’s Lake took a serious turn on Tuesday morning when a man from Dubuque reportedly brandished a handgun during an argument.

**Payton L. Walker**, 28, was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct in connection with the incident. According to the **Grant County Sheriff’s Office**, a 911 call was made at **8:17 AM** on **June 10, 2025**, from an individual fishing at O’Leary’s Lake, situated off **Eagle Point Road in the Town of Jamestown**. The caller alleged that Walker had pulled a firearm during a dispute over fishing rights.

Upon arrival, law enforcement, including deputies from **Jo Daviess County, Illinois**, and officers from the **East Dubuque Police Department**, learned that the confrontation arose after two fishermen had accidentally tangled their lines, leading to a heated exchange. During this argument, Walker reportedly displayed a handgun.

Investigators confirmed that while Walker did show the firearm, he did not aim it at anyone, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. After the investigation, Walker was arrested and taken to the **Grant County Jail**, where he was booked for one count of disorderly conduct. He later posted bond and has since been released.
