Dubuque Deck Consumed by Residential Fire, No Injuries Reported

**Dubuque, IA – On June 1, 2025, at 1:12 AM, the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center was alerted via a 911 call regarding a fire on the back deck of a home located at 1707 South Grandview Avenue. The Dubuque Fire Department promptly responded within 30 seconds, deploying multiple units including Battalion 1, Truck 4, Medic 1, Engine 1, Engine 5, Truck 1, and Engine 6, which consisted of a total of 14 firefighters.**

**Engine 5 arrived on the scene in four minutes to find a fully engulfed deck fire. Battalion 1 took command of the situation, establishing Grandview Command. Engine 5 deployed a hose line to battle the external blaze, while Truck 1 ensured that all residents had successfully evacuated the premises. Engine 5 connected to a nearby hydrant, and Truck 4 along with Medic 1 investigated potential fire extension inside the structure. The exterior fire was brought under control within just 10 minutes by crews from Engine 5 and Engine 1. Minor smoke damage was noted inside the apartments, with no direct fire damage found. However, fire was subsequently discovered within a parapet wall and flat roof, which Truck 1 accessed to extinguish lingering spot fires.**

**The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing. The Red Cross provided immediate assistance to two families who were displaced, offering temporary housing options. Fortunately, all residents and their pets escaped unharmed, and there were no injuries reported among the first responders. The estimated cost of property damage is approximately $60,000.**
