On May 19, 2025, an emergency call to 911 regarding an incident at Wilgus Hall prompted a lockdown at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, according to UW Police Chief Joseph Hellman. Authorities quickly assessed the situation as an isolated event, and one individual was taken to the hospital. Due to an ongoing investigation involving campus police, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, no additional details were available, leaving many in the campus community seeking answers.
Dr. Laura Reynolds, the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, announced the postponement of final exams until the following week. Students with questions or concerns were encouraged to reach out to their faculty members, while deans of the college are also available for inquiries. The campus will remain open for normal activities. Students are invited to utilize counseling services through Mantra’s Care Hub at all times, and University Counseling will provide triage services from Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Further updates will be communicated via university email.
