On May 20, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Dubuque Police Department commenced an operation to apprehend 40-year-old Leonardo M. Campbell at 2115 Stafford Street. This led to an extended standoff lasting several hours.

Despite efforts from negotiators to reach a peaceful resolution, Campbell remained uncooperative, which compelled the tactical team to deploy tear gas. His arrest occurred at 10:07 p.m. Campbell faces multiple charges including domestic abuse assault resulting in injury, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, five counts of failure to appear, and four counts of violation of pretrial supervision.

Currently, Campbell is being held on a bond of $100,000.

It is important to note that being apprehended does not equate to guilt; all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
